Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi has claimed a 23 per cent growth in tourism this year, as a result of 1.2 million guests who entered tourism establishments between January and September.<\/p>\n

According to Nyusi, who was speaking on Thursday, at the inauguration of the delegation of the National Social Security Institute (INSS), in the southern province of Inhambane, about 706,000 guests are nationals and 493,000 are foreigners, compared to 553,000 nationals and 439,000 foreigners in the same period of 2022.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn order to respond to this avalanche and at the same time improve the provision of services in the hotel and tourism sector, this year 5,081 professionals from the various operational areas had to be trained\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

According to Nyusi, \u201cin the same period and in partnership with the private sector, 100 paid internship grants were awarded to final year students or recent graduates on the waitressing and bar courses, consolidating the knowledge acquired in the classroom with know-how.\u201d<\/p>\n

He noted that 179 new establishments, including holiday resorts and catering and drinking establishments, had come into operation as part of the increase in tourism.<\/p>\n

In addition, 12 travel agencies started operating, generating 1,802 new jobs.<\/p>\n

Despite the results, Nyusi said that the indicators \u201cstill fall short of our country\u2019s enormous potential.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cE-visa\u201d (electronic visa), which is part of the Package of Economic Acceleration Measures (PAE), is seen as one of the major contributors to this performance.<\/p>\n
