The event took place behind closed doors in Maputo and allowed for the challenges and opportunities of the Mozambican market to be identified, as well as presenting solutions for more fruitful engagement between the private sector and the government.<\/p>\n<p>Trade between the UK and Mozambique grew by US$ 92 million between June 2022 and June 2023, representing an increase of around 32% compared to the previous period. The US$ 370 million mark was reached in a context of mutual beneficial trade and investment partnership by British affiliated companies with Mozambican counterparts, including implementation of new tools and policies to facilitate the export of products from Mozambique to the UK.<\/p>\n<p>His Majesty\u2019s Trade Commissioner for Africa John Humphrey, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am encouraged by the discussions at the Strategic Business Group, as well as being able to see first-hand during my visit the importance that this forum brings to harnessing the power of trade and investment to create new jobs, upgrade markets, drive growth and transform lives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look forward to continuing our work with the Government of Mozambique to build further mutual investment opportunities for UK and Mozambican businesses to go forward from strength to strength together as we look ahead to the UK-African Investment Summit due in London next year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This five-day visit comes ahead of the UK-African Investment Summit that will take place in the UK in 2024. The visit included meetings with the Minister of Natural Resources and Energy \u2013 Carlos Zacarias, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Ludovina Bernardo and the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communication Amilton Alissone, representing the priority areas of co-operation between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>The UK-African Investment Summit to be held in the UK in 2024 is a follow-up to the successful Africa-UK Investment Summit of 2020.
