Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique\u2019s National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) has arrested a father at a petrol station, in the northern Mozambican province of Nampula, for allegedly trying to sell his own ten-year-old son.<\/p>\n

According to the SERNIC spokesperson in Nampula, Enina Tshinine, the arrestee was trying to charge 1.2 million meticais (about 18,750 dollars at the current exchange rate) for the boy.<\/p>\n

The scam had been denounced by some sources close to the seller.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe father, who lives in Angoche, asked his colleague to find someone here in the city of Nampula so that he could sell his own son. After finding out about this from our sources, we went to where the individual was getting out of the car that was travelling between Angoche and Nampula and made the arrest\u201d, Tshinine said.<\/p>\n

According to Tshinine, the child has been sent to an orphanage, while the process of bringing the accused to trial is under way.<\/p>\n

For his part, the accused (whom Sernic did not name) explained that, due to the employment crisis, he wanted to sell his son in order to obtain money.<\/p>\n
