Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique\u2019s Constitutional Council, the country\u2019s highest body in matters of constitutional and electoral law, has rejected the appeal submitted by Renamo, the largest opposition party in the country, in Marromeu, in the central province of Sofala.<\/p>\n

The party was asking for the annulment of results of the repeat elections held on 10 December in 18 polling stations, due to many irregularities recorded. The party also denounces the falsification of 18 minutes and public notices and the fact that its candidate delegates did not have access to these documents.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, the Constitutional Council claims that there is no evidence to annul the vote. The body judged the party\u2019s appeal and concluded that the District Elections Commission had complied with all the procedures and the party had not presented any evidence.<\/p>\n

The Council states that \u201cin relation to Renamo\u2019s claim that its delegates did not have access to the minutes and public notices, it has been proven that the delegates left the polling stations before the end of the partial tabulation process when the Frelimo party was ahead in the votes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe District Electoral Commission summoned all the political representatives and the applicant\u2019s representative was present, although he left the venue before the end of the tabulation process\u201d, says the Council.<\/p>\n
