Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambican Transport Minister Mateus Magala has called on road and maritime transport companies to avoid turning the festive season into a time of mourning throughout Mozambique.<\/p>\n

According to the minister, cited by Ra\u0301dio Mozambique, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Internet Digital Square in the Ka Nyaka municipal district in Maputo city, tough measures will be taken against transport companies that engage in deviant behavior and put the lives of road users at risk during this festive season.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis period is generally characterized by an increase in the movement of people and goods, which also increases the risk of impatient behavior\u201d, the minister said.<\/p>\n

Magala believes that the growing demand for transport services at this time opens up space for various irregularities to occur, especially in tourist areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe demand for tourist transport services has been increasing, leading to irregularities such as overcrowding of boats, the use of unlicensed boats, lack of rest for crews, among other irregularities that, at the end of the day, cause pain and mourning\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

Regarding the recent arrival of 22 articulated buses in the country for public passenger transport in the Greater Maputo metropolitan area, Magala said the government is designing projects to create a modern transport network.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are instilling more structural forms. This is a transitional measure. We can manage the difficulties of the moment, but it\u2019s not definitive. We want to create a civilized, dignified transport network, a modern transport network that will make Mozambicans proud to be citizens of this country. That\u2019s what we\u2019re going to do\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n
