Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>As the peak of the rainy season nears, ARA-Centro, the regional water administration body for the centre of the country, has called for the immediate evacuation of riverside areas in the provinces of Tete, Manica, Sofala and Zambe\u0301zia, due to the possibility of floods.<\/p>\n

The districts concerned are Doa and Mutarara in Tete province, Chemba, Caia and Marromeu in Sofala province, Mopeia and Morrumbala in Zambe\u0301zia and Tambara in Manica.<\/p>\n

The head of the Water Resources Department at ARA-Centro, Francisco Macari\u0301ngue, said that, despite weather forecasts indicating low rainfall due to the El Nin\u0303o phenomenon, people should remove their goods from areas prone to \u2018natural calamities\u2019.<\/p>\n

The El Nin\u0303o climate phenomenon involves atmospheric and oceanic factors, characterized by an increase in temperatures in the Pacific Ocean, and affecting mainly the tropical zone of the globe. El Nin\u0303o generates changes in temperature and precipitation patterns, causing severe droughts as well as torrential rains.<\/p>\n
