{"id":53448,"date":"2024-01-05T19:44:20","date_gmt":"2024-01-05T19:44:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/all-news\/lam-receives-its-first-cargo-aircraft"},"modified":"2024-01-05T21:00:10","modified_gmt":"2024-01-05T21:00:10","slug":"lam-receives-its-first-cargo-aircraft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/all-news\/lam-receives-its-first-cargo-aircraft","title":{"rendered":"LAM receives its first cargo aircraft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Linhas Ae\u0301reas de Moc\u0327ambique (LAM) took delivery of a Boeing 737-300 freighter plane in Maputo this Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>According to an official company source, the new Boeing arrived in the Mozambican capital at 06:50 a.m. on December 31, and will \u201crespond to cargo demand\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe aircraft will begin operations soon,\u201d the source added.<\/p>\n<p>The South African company Fly Modern Ark (FMA) took over the management of LAM in April, 2023, with the aim of revitalising the Mozambican airline.<\/p>\n<p>In a meeting with journalists in Maputo in September, FMA executive director Theunis Crous said that he was negotiating the rental of a cargo plane to handle air freight within the country and abroad, namely to South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an opportunity to make the company profitable. Cargo transportation is a very profitable business,\u201d Crous said.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Crous also mentioned that FMA had mobilised US$15 million (\u20ac14 million) in financing for LAM\u2019s current operation, which is being expanded with new routes and aircraft.
