Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Health of Mozambique on Wednesday recommended the reinforcement of preventive measures against flu in the country, warning of an increasing trend in the positivity rate.<\/p>\n

The ministry recommends in its statement, \u201cthe reinforcement of flu prevention measures, namely: cough etiquette, reinforcement of individual and collective hygiene, disinfection or regular washing of hands and use of masks for individuals with acute respiratory symptoms\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to the same source, the positivity rate for the influenza virus in Mozambique \u2013 one of the main causes of acute respiratory infections \u2013 has increased in the two weeks since the end of December from 12% to 20%, although available data does not as yet report alarming numbers in health units.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe positivity rates indicated above are within the expected limits for this time of year,\u201d MISAU says. The ministry is implementing a flu syndrome surveillance system to monitor the epidemiological trend, seasonality and circulation of variants of the causative viruses.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Mozambique, infections due to these viruses occur throughout the year and the number of cases cyclically increases from January to April, with a peak in March, and between the months of June and September, with a peak in August,\u201d the ministry indicates.<\/p>\n
