Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Brazilian writers Itamar Vieira Ju\u0301nior and Ste\u0302nio Gardel and Mozambique\u2019s Mia Couto are among the authors of 70 books nominated for the Dublin Literary Prize, the organisers announced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Itamar Vieira Ju\u0301nior is nominated with Johnny Lorenz\u2019s translation of \u201cTorto Arado\u201d, the debut novel by Salvador da Bahia author, which won the Leya Prize in 2018, the Oceanos Prize in 2020 and the Jabuti Prize in 2022 in the category of Brazilian Book Published Abroad. The work was nominated by the Porto Municipal Library.<\/p>\n

Ste\u0302nio Gardel is nominated with Bruna Dantas Lobato\u2019s translation of \u201cA Palavra que Resta\u201d, a Jabuti finalist and the unprecedented winner of a National Book Award in the United States in the translation category. The nomination for the Dublin prize was made by the Maria da Conceic\u0327a\u0303o Moreira Sales Demonstration Library in Brasilia.<\/p>\n

Mozambican writer Mia Couto has been shortlisted for the Dublin Literary Prize with David Brookshaw\u2019s English translation of \u201cThe Horizon Drinker\u201d, the third book in the trilogy \u201cThe Emperor\u2019s Sands\u201d, the French edition of which won him the Jan Michalski prize. Mia Couto\u2019s work was nominated by the National Library of Mozambique.<\/p>\n

The Lisbon Library Network also put forward a nominee, \u201cHello, Linda\u201d, by American Ann Napolitano.<\/p>\n

The Dublin Literary Prize has a monetary value of \u20ac100,000, which is classified as the highest amount awarded to a fiction book published in English in a given year. If the book is translated, the author receives \u20ac75,000 and the translator the other \u20ac25,000.<\/p>\n

The list of 70 nominees includes 31 translated works and 16 first-time novelists, according to a press release from the organisers, Dublin City Council.<\/p>\n

The next step in the prize is to draw up the short-list of finalists, which will be revealed on 26 March.<\/p>\n

The jury will be chaired by university professor Chris Morash and made up of Lucy Collins, Daniel Medin, Ingunn Sn\u00e6dal, Anton Hur and Irenosen Okojie.<\/p>\n

The winning book will be announced by the mayor of Dublin, Daithi\u0301 de Ro\u0301iste, on 23 May as part of the city\u2019s literary festival.<\/p>\n
