Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Last week, the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) detained more than 1,000 individuals for violating the border across the country, the security force announced on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

According to the PRM\u2019s operational balance for the period from January 6th to 12th, the situation in the country remained \u201crelatively calm and controlled\u201d, with 1,095 people being detained, in coordination with the National Criminal Investigation Service (Sernic), for violating the border, and 316 for illegal immigration, in addition to 320 for committing common crimes.<\/p>\n

According to the report, which does not mention the nationalities of the individuals arrested, the Mozambican police have routinely been recording more than 600 arrests for border violations per week.<\/p>\n

The country has land borders to the north with Tanzania, to the northwest with Malawi and Zambia, to the west with Swaziland and to the south with South Africa.<\/p>\n

In addition to the total of 1,731 detained in the space of a week, police seized 14 firearms, including pistols and machine guns, together with ammunition, plus varying quantities of drugs, 12 vehicles and 26 motorbikes.<\/p>\n

Still in the same period, the PRM reports having inspected 107,009 vehicles across the country, issuing 4,050 fines, and detaining 45 drivers for illegal driving and 55 for active corruption.<\/p>\n

Also on the roads, in the space of a week, eight road accidents considered \u201crelevant\u201d were recorded, compared to 10 in the same period in 2023, causing eight deaths and leaving two seriously injured.<\/p>\n
