Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique\u2019s annual inflation rate for 2023 was 5.3 per cent, well within the target figure of less than ten per cent, according to the latest figures from the National Statistics Institute (INE).<\/p>\n

Inflation in December was 1.29 per cent. Among the goods contributing to the December price rises were lettuce (up by 23.7 per cent), tomatoes (9.8 per cent), unprocessed maize (9.3 per cent), and dried fish (6.6 per cent).<\/p>\n

But the prices of several goods fell during the month \u2013 notably fresh hen\u2019s eggs (down by five per cent), lemons (3.3 per cent), maize flour (0.9 per cent), vegetable oil (0.5 per cent), and fresh fish (0.2 per cent).<\/p>\n

The average annual inflation over the previous 12 months was 7.13 per cent.<\/p>\n

The INE uses the consumer price index from eight of the country\u2019s main cities. These figure show that the highest inflation over the year was 8.18 per cent in Quelimane, followed by 7.13 per cent in Tete, and 6.45 per cent in Inhambane.<\/p>\n

The lowest annual inflation was in the three largest cities \u2013 Maputo (4.22 per cent), Beira (4.24 per cent) and Nampula (4.32 per cent).<\/p>\n
