Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi has inaugurated a Faculty of Sciences and Research Facilities, budgeted at 12.5 million dollars, at Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM), the largest higher education institution in the country.<\/p>\n

The infrastructure, which was inaugurated on Wednesday, in Maputo, was funded by the Mozambican Government with the support of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA).<\/p>\n

According to Nyusi, speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the country must embrace similar initiatives that consist of perfecting old ideas regarding the construction of modern infrastructures for education and investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis vision was built and materialized by several generations of chancellors of this university. It\u2019s an example that should be followed, not least because when we manage municipalities and towns, we need to see what has been thought of and where we are going, because at best we can perfect it. And this is the result\u201d, Nyusi said.<\/p>\n

Nyusi tokk the opportunity to challenge the university community to work tirelessly on \u201ctechnological innovation\u201d and the \u201cuse and appropriation of knowledge\u201d, taking into account the local knowledge, because when it is \u201cwell framed and processed, it is fundamental in finding solutions to the challenges that trouble communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWith these new teaching and research infrastructures in geology, UEM will be in a comparative position to train more national staff, with knowledge and skills, and thus promote a more sustainable development model\u201d, he explained.<\/p>\n

The President also challenged higher education institutions operating in the country to train professionals in areas with potential for transforming the country\u2019s existing mineral resources, in order to promote the well-being of communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cMozambique is a country rich in mineral resources and geological knowledge is crucial for the sustainable and responsible development of these resources. The faculty could be a new way for us to provide the necessary response\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

In his turn, the chancellor of UEM, Manuel Guilherme, said that the infrastructure will boost the research activities in the university, considering the complexity of the engineering.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe projects we are witnessing today have been driven by the implementation of the Strategic Plan 2018-2028, which guides UEM towards its transformation into a research university\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe achievements are strategic for us because of the installed capacity that allows us to increase UEM\u2019s contribution to Mozambique\u2019s development projects, with a view to increasing competitiveness and creating added value in our economy\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n
