Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Sixty-five new mayors and members of the Mozambican municipal assemblies were sworn in Wednesday across the country following the sixth municipal elections held in October.<\/p>\n

The new mayoral officials were sworn in by provincial presiding judges and district judges, and the inaugurations took place simultaneously in all of the country\u2019s municipalities.<\/p>\n

The Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo), the ruling party, will govern 60 out of the 65 municipalities, following the results of the October election, which were contested by the opposition and civil society. Four of the remaining five municipalities will be run by Renamo, the main opposition party, and one by the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM), the country\u2019s second-largest opposition party.<\/p>\n

The members of the municipal assemblies were sworn in for a term that starts this year and will last for the next five years.<\/p>\n

The winning candidate for the mayor of Maputo Municipality, Razaque Manhique, from the Frelimo party, said he is ready to serve the city\u2019s residents when speaking to the press on the sidelines of the inauguration in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique.<\/p>\n

Manhique, who will replace Eneas Comiche and was also sworn in as a member of the Maputo Municipal Assembly, stressed that the city has many challenges and that it is, therefore, necessary that \u201cwe are all together, after all, by joining forces we can continue the work that is already being done.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must all join hands to work for our city. I have faith that better days will come for our city,\u201d said Manhique.<\/p>\n
