Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican activist detained on Saturday for alleged incitement to violence has been released, subject to an identity and residence agreement, the representative of the Network of Human Rights Defenders in Nampula told Lusa on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is in good health, although he complains of not having eaten for almost three days,\u201d Gamito Carlos told Lusa, moments after the activist\u2019s release in the city of Nampula, northern Mozambique.<\/p>\n

Joaquim Pachoneia, from the Mentes Resilientes Association, was arrested on Saturday, accused of inciting violence and insulting the Mozambican president, Filipe Nyusi, and the police in the city of Nampula.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe case will continue to follow its proper legal procedures. He was released on identity and residence conditions [termo de identidade e residencia],\u201d Carlos reported.<\/p>\n

The Mozambican police accuse the activist of inciting people to assault and to curse (using superstitious methods) the recently sworn-in members of municipal assemblies following the strongly contested October 11 elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition to agitating young people to commit violence, he uttered insults of various kinds at the head of state and the PRM leaders. In one of the videos, he even calls PRM members \u2018dogs of breed who don\u2019t think and who only act in compliance with their owner\u2019s orders\u2019,\u201d Nampula police spokesperson De\u0301rcio Samuel told a press conference on Sunday.<\/p>\n

At the same press conference, Mozambican police said that the activist had stated that he works for a non-governmental organisation (NGO) financed by Germany to \u201cdestabilize the country\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe would also have stated that he belongs to an NGO financed by the German government to destabilise the country, through violent statements that incite violence,\u201d spokesman De\u0301rcio Samuel, while declining to answer questions from journalists.<\/p>\n

Lusa asked the German embassy in the Mozambican capital for a reaction to this allegation, but has so far not received a response.<\/p>\n

Activist Pachoneia, 36 years old, is known locally for his criticisms of the authorities, and, according to the association he belongs to, has complained of threats in reaction to his comments on social media.<\/p>\n
