Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Matlemele Complete Primary School in Matola municipality remains largely closed, thanks to floodwater in the classrooms and courtyard. The situation has forced around 4,000 students to stay at home for more than two weeks, and classes \u2013 in improvised classrooms \u2013 only started today.<\/p>\n

More than 4,000 Matlemele Complete Primary School students failed to start classes on the day that all other schools began the academic year. Two weeks later, this Monday, the children finally started attending classes \u2013 in a plot which had been allocated to the projected the Matlemele garbage dump.<\/p>\n

The situation on Monday morning was one of total turmoil, with parents and guardians and their student charges searching desperately for classes.<\/p>\n

In all, 25 wood-and-zinc classrooms are being \u2018built\u2019. The floors are not cemented, nor are there enough school desks for everyone. Where there are no desks, students sit on chairs, and where there are no chairs, they sit on the floor.<\/p>\n

This situation does not satisfy those in charge of children\u2019s education, who nevertheless acknowledge that this is better than the previous school, which was flooded.<\/p>\n

In total, there are 4,117 students, divided into three shifts of 75 classes, with an average of 50 students per class.<\/p>\n
