Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Risk Analysis<\/b><\/p>\n

Tropical Storm Filipo is expected to make landfall by early morning 12 March, between Govuro and Vilankulos (Sofala & Inhambane Provinces).<\/p>\n

The forecast trajectory of TS Filipo is expected to go down Inhanbane, through Gaza, and out through Maputo province on March 13th. TS Filipo may bring windspeeds of 85Km\/h up to a max of 120km\/h in some locations.<\/p>\n

The main concern with TS Filipo is the potential flooding across most of the central\/southern country due to increased rainfall. It is expected that there will be destruction of crops, flooding of roads & collapse of bridges, flooding of low-lying areas, and flooding of areas near rivers.<\/p>\n

Areas of concern: Inhambane: Govuro, Vilankulo, Massinga, Inhassoro, Mabote,Panda, Homoine, Morrumbene, Inhambane city and Maxixe Sofala: Machanga, Chibabava and Buzi Gaza: Massingir, Chokwe, Chongoene, Bilene, Limpopo, Mandlakazi, Chicualacuala, Mapai,Mabalane, Chigubo, Chibuto, Guija and Cidade de Xai-Xai Maputo: Flood prone area along Incomati, Umbeluzi and Maputo basins<\/p>\n

Overall, up to 12.7 Million people (worst case scenario) could be affected indirectly by flooding.<\/p>\n

Specifically in Sofala only, government forecasts 136,583 people will be affected overall, with the most affected in southern districts (16,846 people). Government has not yet released potential impacts for other provinces.<\/p>\n
