Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Norwegian government intends to invest, by 2027, over four million dollars to support Mozambique in the preservation of its marine ecosystem and in diversifying its economy.<\/p>\n

According to the Norwegian ambassador to Mozambique, Haakon Gram-Johannssen, who was speaking on Monday, in Maputo, at the launch of the Oceans for Development Programme, the funding will also strengthen the institutional capacity of the maritime sector by sharing experiences.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe initiative will enable the sustainable use of marine resources through the Blue Economy\u201d, he said, explaining that Mozambique is one of the countries chosen by the Norwegian authorities to host the pilot project, following an assessment carried out for this purpose.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat the Norwegian side is bringing is its experience and expertise in developing the Blue Economy, a sector from which Norway has built its considerable wealth and which today accounts for almost 70 per cent of its total export revenues\u201d, the ambassador said.<\/p>\n

For her part, the Minister of the Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries, Li\u0301dia Cardoso, said that the programme aims to promote a diversified and sustainable ocean economy, as well as contributing to socio-economic development.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpecifically, it is a programme focused on the funding component for the areas of integrated ocean management, scientific research, statistics and the Blue Economy, one of the priorities of our governance and whose Blue Economy Development Strategy is due to be launched soon\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n
