Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi has called for the full emancipation of women in order to achieve sustainable development in the country, and the creation of equal opportunities for men and women.<\/p>\n

According to Nyusi, who was speaking on Sunday at a ceremony in Maputo, marking the passage of Mozambican Women\u2019s Day, celebrated under the motto: \u201cTo invest in women is to accelerate progress\u201d, the government remains committed to securing equal opportunities for men and women.<\/p>\n

The president gave an overview of the achievements in favor of women\u2019s emancipation.<\/p>\n

He explained that, in the education sector, the net enrolment rate for girls in primary school increased from 93.3 per cent in 2020 to 98.3 per cent in 2023.<\/p>\n

In higher education, the percentage of women enrolled rose from 46 per cent of the total in 2020 to 48 per cent in 2023, and in Technical and Vocational Education, the percentage of women enrolled rose from 51.3 per cent in 2020 to 60.4 per cent in 2023.<\/p>\n

He acknowledged that, in the area of health, \u201cchallenges still persist, due to the predominance of many structural, normative and social factors, hindering the development of women and girls, including child marriage, maternal mortality and gender-based violence\u201d.<\/p>\n

He also said that digital financial inclusion is another challenge that still prevails.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are low levels of mobile phone ownership among women and girls, and this gap is notable in rural areas. Overcoming these and other challenges requires everyone\u2019s participation to change attitudes and eliminate social practices that are harmful to the health of women and girls\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n
