Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Leonid Chimarizene, spokesperson for the National Institute of the Sea (INAMAR), announced this Friday, April 12th, that the organization is installing landing platforms for artisanal boats across the Mozambican territory, to allow entry and exit at properly established locations with respective monitoring.<\/p>\n

The source spoke during the first Extraordinary Session of the Intersectoral Technical Council of the Sea, held in the city of Matola, the capital of Maputo province.<\/p>\n

According to the Mozambique News Agency (AIM), the system is currently only used for industrial and semi-industrial vessels that use the port as an entry and exit area.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a measure that we are already implementing. We are placing landing platforms and we are now in the process of identification and placement so that all boats know their exit point, as what currently happens is that due to the vastness of the Mozambican coast, we have many situations where artisanal boats leave from unidentified locations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Chimarizene explained that the measure will serve to ensure the monitoring of all boats and prevent the recurrence of cases similar to the shipwreck that occurred last Sunday off the coast of the Island of Mozambique.<\/p>\n

After the installation of these centers, all artisanal boats found to be entering the sea outside these guidelines will be sanctioned similar to what happens with industrial and semi-industrial vessels, warned the source.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the case of an artisanal boat leaving from a location for which it does not have authorization, it will be committing a violation,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n

Currently, there are over 450,000 artisanal boats based in various fishing centers in the country. In the Niassa province, a pilot phase is underway for a monitoring system of artisanal boats based on a location device, for their verification and monitoring.<\/p>\n
