Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Municipal Police of the City of Maputo, the Mozambican capital, sanctioned 31 drivers for irregular parking in the urban area between April 1 and 11, compared to 121 issued during the same period in 2023, representing a 74 percent reduction.<\/p>\n

Motorists who park in prohibited areas, engage in prolonged and abusive parking are sanctioned. The fine for these cases is one thousand meticais (about 16 dollars).<\/p>\n

In a brief statement to AIM, the spokesperson for the corporation, Arse\u0301nia Miambo, said that the Municipal Police paid greater attention to irregular parking, particularly in the downtown area of the city.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter exhausting all dialogue mechanisms, we proceeded with some corrections of extreme anomalies, which resulted in the issuance of 31 fines,\u201d she emphasized.<\/p>\n

According to Miambo, during the aforementioned period, nine fines were also issued to semi-collective passenger transporters for route shortening and deviation, compared to 14 during the same period in 2023, representing a 37 percent reduction.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo fines were issued for passenger transport in open-box vans (commonly known as \u2018My Love\u2019), compared to five in the previous year, indicating a 100 percent reduction,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Regarding the inspection of commercial establishments emitting noise pollution, no fines were issued, as the corporation conducted an awareness campaign regarding compliance with municipal regulations on noise pollution, which covered 35 establishments.<\/p>\n

She explained that, during the period under review, as part of police-community interaction, six neighborhoods were visited, namely Maxaquene \u201cB, C, and D\u201d, Polana Canic\u0327o \u201cA\u201d, Urbanizac\u0327a\u0303o, and Mafalala, in the Municipal District of Ka Maxaqueni, to disseminate regulations on urban solid waste and legislation regulating the production, marketing, and consumption of alcoholic beverages.<\/p>\n
