Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>More than 50 vehicles have been stolen in South Africa and smuggled into Mozambique from January until now. South African police confirm the arrest of at least one officer involved in the crime.<\/p>\n

About two weeks ago, the South African Police Minister visited Mozambique to ensure bilateral cooperation in combating the smuggling of vehicles from South Africa into Mozambique, through the Ponta do Ouro border.<\/p>\n

Last Friday, South African police announced that from January until now, more than 50 vehicles had been stolen in the Mpumalanga province and smuggled into Mozambique through the border.<\/p>\n

The population of the Mbuzini village accuses the local police of collaborating with Mozambicans involved in the crime.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe police are involved. I say this because whenever a smuggled car crosses, we see police cars before or after them, as if they were escorting them,\u201d said one resident.<\/p>\n

And the police confirm. Donald Mdluli, spokesperson for the police in Mpumalanga, quoted by SABC, talks about at least one officer arrested in connection with the crime, as well as criminal and disciplinary proceedings against border agents.<\/p>\n

The police also mention the involvement of young people from the Mbuzini village in facilitating the crime.<\/p>\n

It is worth noting that the construction of the first five kilometers of a concrete wall along the border with Mozambique in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal is underway to curb the smuggling of stolen vehicles and goods.<\/p>\n
