Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>On Friday (03-05), Mozambicans will meet Frelimo\u2019s presidential candidate for the October 9th elections. Filipe Nyusi\u2019s likely successor will be elected during the First Extraordinary Session of the Central Committee, the party\u2019s most important body in the interval between congresses.<\/p>\n

However, the existing certainty about the date for the choice of the ruling party\u2019s next presidential candidate is not accompanied by any certainty over the names to be put on the internal ballot. With less than three days left until the selection, the list of pre-candidates remains in the Political Commission\u2019s lockers. Samora Machel Ju\u0301nior, Jose\u0301 Pacheco and Anto\u0301nio Hama Thai were the first to publicly admit their desire to succeed Filipe Jacinto Nyusi at Ponta Vermelha.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, it was the turn of Frelimo deputy and TV chairperson Gabriel Ju\u0301nior to express his desire to assume the presidency. In a video shared on social media, Gabriel Ju\u0301nior appears leaving the Frelimo party headquarters building after submitting his candidacy. \u2018Thank you very much guys. Today is one of those days, I\u2019m leaving my party [headquarters] to show all my availability to run for president of my country, and a dream is a dream. Hugs!\u2019 he said in his short statement.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, the Frelimo Political Commission will meet to deliberate on the party\u2019s list of candidates, in a true race against the clock. The week is the longest of the year, and with the coldest dawns among the \u2018presidential comrades\u2019.<\/p>\n

Last week, Frelimo spokesperson Ludmila Maguni reiterated that the Political Commission had not received any candidacies, although behind the scenes movements were beginning to gain colour and shape.<\/p>\n

Samora Machel Ju\u0301nior was the first to publish his manifesto, followed by Hama Thai and Jose\u0301 Pacheco.<\/p>\n

From the Central Committee, the ACLLN (Association of Combatants of the National Liberation Struggle) is demanding a charismatic, balanced, thoughtful candidate who \u201cproperly masters the country\u2019s major dossiers\u2019 \u2018. It also demands that the next President of the Republic be a figure who inspires confidence among the comrades, with a clean past and who is knowledgeable about the party\u2019 history and heroes.<\/p>\n

In turn, the OMM (Mozambican Women\u2019s Organization \u2013 Frelimo\u2019s women\u2019s wing) demands a candidate who is not vain and mercantilist, while the OJM (Mozambican Youth Organization, Frelimo Youth Wing) says that it wants a candidate like Filipe Nyusi.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that, in addition to Samora Machel Ju\u0301nior, Anto\u0301nio Hama Thai, Jose\u0301 Pacheco and Gabriel Ju\u0301nior, Frelimo\u2019s list of presidential candidates also includes Lui\u0301sa Diogo, Aires Ali, Alberto Vaquina, Basi\u0301lio Monteiro, Celso Correia and Ame\u0301lia Muendane.<\/p>\n
