Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican authorities, in the town of Moci\u0301mboa da Praia, in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, have warned fishermen to avoid putting to sea at night for safety reasons, taking into account that the region has been plagued by extreme violence carried out by islamist terrorists.<\/p>\n

According to Tuesday\u2019s issue of the independent newsheet \u201cCarta de Moc\u0327ambique\u201d, citing local sources, fishing at night, which is locally called \u201cmalhac\u0327a\u0303o\u201d, has been prohibited as a result of the movement of terrorists on some islands since last Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been told that the terrorists are on two or three boats on Nhonge Island, it\u2019s not known what they\u2019re doing, but we\u2019ve been told by the Navy not to go fishing at night and so we\u2019re here\u201d, said one fisherman.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s true, we didn\u2019t go fishing to avoid being mistaken for terrorists. A navy corporal told us that no boat should go out fishing, and we didn\u2019t go\u201d, said another source.<\/p>\n

According to other sources, the information about the ban on fishing at night actually came from the authorities \u201cand they told us that these terrorists went from the Nsangue side and then to the Tambuzi and Quifuque islands.\u201d<\/p>\n

The sources pointed out that after the Mozambican Defence and Security Forces (FDS) became aware of the terrorists\u2019 movements, several units were deployed to strategic locations to \u2018hunt down\u2019 the enemy, who apparently were unable to move from one of the islands to the mainland.<\/p>\n

But by the end of Tuesday, no clashes had been reported between the terrorist group and the FDS.<\/p>\n
