Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique and Cuba have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation in the field of science and technology.<\/p>\n

The agreement \u2013 which aims to promote, strengthen and develop science, technology and higher education in both countries based on equality and mutual benefit \u2013 was signed on Thursday, in Maputo, by the Mozambican Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Daniel Nivagara, and the Cuban Ambassador to Mozambique, Jorge Tormo.<\/p>\n

Under the agreement, the parties undertake to boost initial and specialist training of doctors, and the import of Cuban teachers for public higher education institutions in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the signing, Nivagara said \u201cscientific activity has been consolidated as an asset in the production of Cuban wealth, which is why Mozambique is fully interested in capitalizing on the experience of this country in strengthening biotechnology and its application to improving the lives of our populations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nivagara believes that \u201cthe implementation of this Memorandum will have a positive impact on improving the quality of life of our population. It is the responsibility of the counterpart ministries to energize and promote the effective implementation of this agreement, by establishing networks and taking advantage of opportunities between the players in science, technology and innovation.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also said that mutually beneficial impact results could only be achieved once the action plan had been consolidated and ratified.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe areas covered by the memorandum include the development of technological and\/or technology-based projects, joint conferences, symposia, courses, seminars and exhibitions. This act contributes to the implementation of the recommendations made by the two heads of state in August 2023, during the working visit of the Cuban president to Maputo.\u201d<\/p>\n

For his part, the Cuban ambassador said that his country\u2019s commitment is to continue cooperating with Mozambique in the training of human capital at undergraduate and postgraduate level.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe signing of the agreement is the result of efforts and planning geared towards enshrining the highest interests of both parties in strengthening bilateral cooperation\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n
