Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique customs on Wednesday (01-05) seized US$100,000 in cash at Mavalane International Airport, in the possession of a young couple living in Maputo.<\/p>\n

The young people were approached by Customs officers as they were about to travel to China, and found to be in possession of cash amounts above those allowed by law.<\/p>\n

Between them, the pair were carrying a total of US$100,000. Customs authorities said the couple claimed to be unaware of the limit established by law, which is US$10,000.<\/p>\n

The couple, frequent travellers on the Mozambique-China route, claimed that the money was intended to purchase hair in China, to later sell in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

The money was confiscated by the authorities and deposited at the Bank of Mozambique (BdM) pending legal procedures.<\/p>\n
