Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican government and its Cuban counterpart intend to strengthen cooperation in the food sector, for the benefit of the population of both countries.<\/p>\n

To this end, a delegation from the Cuban government is on a seven-day working visit to Mozambique.<\/p>\n

Speaking during a working meeting, on Monday, in Maputo, the Cuban Deputy Minister for the Food Industry and Fisheries, Midalys Naranjo Blanco said that the meetings with the Mozambican government will establish conditions to discuss issues of mutual interest, especially food safety.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are here with a commission from the Cuban Ministry for the Food Industry with the aim of identifying and working with Mozambique on an action plan that responds to the needs of both countries, with the aim of making progress on issues of food sovereignty for both peoples and with an emphasis on preparing and training staff\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n

Taking into account Mozambique\u2019s willingness, she said, \u201cWe both can improve the food sector.\u201d<\/p>\n

The visit is part of the implementation of actions agreed upon in the memorandum of understanding signed last November at the Havana business meeting between Mozambique\u2019s Ministry of Fisheries and Inland Waters and Cuba\u2019s Ministry of Food Industry and Fisheries.<\/p>\n

For her part, the Mozambican Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Ludovina Bernardo, explained that the Cuban delegation is looking for an exchange of experience in the Mozambican trade sector in the food industry, particularly grain processing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Cuban Deputy Minister is coming to follow up on what was discussed in terms of actions and also in our sector to exchange experience in the food industry, with greater emphasis on the grain processing industry\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe think that this visit will bring to reality the decisions taken at the highest level and we, as officials from both governments, have a role to play in ensuring the development aspirations of our countries, peoples and our good relations\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n

The Cuban delegation also visited the Matola Industrial Company (CIM), which is one of Mozambique\u2019s largest food processing companies. On Tuesday the delegation is due to work with the fisheries sector and throughout the week with the Ministry of Science and Technology.<\/p>\n
