Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Residents of Macomia district, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, have denounced the existence of mines or other explosive devices on the road that leads to Mucojo administrative post, according to Thursday\u2019s issue of the independent newsheet \u201cCarta de Moc\u0327ambique.\u201d<\/p>\n

As a result of these devices, it has been difficult to walk or use transport, which means that people are forced to use alternative routes to get to and from that administrative post.<\/p>\n

According to local sources, people\u2019s main concern is that the explosives have been laid on a stretch usually used by fishermen.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn engineer travelling along the road stepped on a mine that exploded and lost his life. The incident took place in the early hours of last Thursday, very close to the village of Napala\u201d, said one source.<\/p>\n

Another resident, named Pinto Sai\u0301de, said that people have been going to Mucojo, but since last week the traffic has reduced in both directions, because in the Napala region they discovered the explosive devices on the road.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn that day, the victim\u2019s companions were also slightly injured, but they didn\u2019t suffer too much\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

So far, it is not known who planted the explosives in that section, but it is believed that Islamist terrorists, who have been carrying out extreme violence in the region, are responsible.<\/p>\n
