{"id":60644,"date":"2024-05-11T17:49:16","date_gmt":"2024-05-11T17:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/all-news\/imports-fell-31-2-in-2023"},"modified":"2024-05-11T18:36:38","modified_gmt":"2024-05-11T18:36:38","slug":"imports-fell-31-2-in-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/all-news\/imports-fell-31-2-in-2023","title":{"rendered":"Imports fell 31.2% in 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>In 2023, Mozambique recorded a 31.2% decrease in imports of goods, a value of US$9.1 billion, equivalent to 44.4% of GDP, essentially reflecting a 76% reduction in spending on goods for Major Projects (GP).<\/p>\n<p>The data is contained in the annual balance of payments bulletin, recently released by the Bank of Mozambique (BdM), to which MZNews has had access, a document which highlights that the import of goods recorded in the same period of 2022 was heavily influenced by the arrival, in the first quarter, of the Coral Sul floating natural gas platform (FNLG) in Area 4 of the Rovuma Basin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImports of goods, excluding the value of the Coral Sul FLNG, registered an increase of US$51.2 million compared to 2022, influenced, fundamentally, by the increase in the import of capital goods, with emphasis on the import of machinery,\u201d the central bank bulletin details.<\/p>\n<p>According to the document, in terms of categories of goods, Capital Goods accounted for 19.1% of total imports, presenting an annual flow of US$1.7 billion, equivalent to 8.5 % of GDP.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Intermediate Goods contributed 33.4% to total imports, at a cost to the country of almost US$3.1 billion, equivalent to 14.9% of GDP.
