Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Ivone Soares, candidate for the presidency of the Mozambique\u2019s main opposition party, Renamo, claims that the party is divided as a result of the existence of groups with \u201cdubious\u201d agendas.<\/p>\n

Soares was speaking on the sidelines of the Renamo\u2019s congress, which has been taking place since Wednesday, in the municipality of Alto Molo\u0301cue\u0300, in the central province of Zambezia.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to bring transparency. I want to bring hope back to all Mozambicans through the organization of my party, because at the moment we are divided. We need to ensure that the Renamo family gets together and reunites\u201d, she said, cited by the independent daily \u201cO Pai\u0301s.\u201d<\/p>\n

The party\u2019s current leader, Ossufo Momade, is standing for a second five year term of office. Momade was elected at the last Renamo congress, held in January 2019. His term expired on 17 January this year.<\/p>\n

Soares, who is the niece of Afonso Dhlakama, who led Renamo from 1979 until his death from diabetes in 2018, said Renamo needs better management and organization, claiming that the party lacks accountability.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to ensure that there is money from the membership fees and that it is well managed\u201d, she stressed. \u201cWe want to manage the money from the budget allocation that the Mozambican state gives to Renamo, because of the number of deputies in the Mozambican parliament\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe should come here to give an account of ourselves, to say how much has been spent, taking into account the plan, and at the moment there is no such culture\u201d, she added.<\/p>\n
