Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi has confirmed that Rwanda is reinforcing its current contingent of 2,500 soldiers in the fight against Islamist terrorists in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters on Friday, in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, after meeting his Rwandan counterpart, Paul Kagame, Nyusi \u201cmore troops are arriving this week, not to rotate, but to strengthen the troops.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the President, the arrival of more troops is a result of the departure of the Southern African Development Community Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM).<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen SAMIM definitively leaves the Macomia area, we\u2019ll occupy it\u201d, said Nyusi.<\/p>\n

The Rwandan involvement, he added, cited by the German agency DW Africa, was \u201cnot because Mozambique can\u2019t provide defense, but you can\u2019t fight terrorism alone. But the greater responsibility lies with the Mozambicans\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to Nyusi, it is completely clear that Rwanda co-operates with the country, \u201cit doesn\u2019t co-operate with individuals. And the greatest pride we would have is to leave things well done so that they can continue\u201d.<\/p>\n
