Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican National Mining Institute (INAMI) claims that the Christian Malanga, leader of last Sunday\u2019s abortive coup d\u2019etat in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), did not have any license to mine minerals in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

The INAMI reaction comes after it was found that Malanga and two American associates, Cole Ducey and Benjamin Polun, had opened three Mozambican companies in 2022, namely Bantu Mining, Global Solutions Mozambique and CCB Mining Solutions. These companies exist on paper, and their statutes were published in the official gazette, the \u201cBoletim da Republica\u201d.<\/p>\n

These companies claimed they would be active in mining, building, security, education and health, especially in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.<\/p>\n

But it is one thing to publish a set of statutes, and something quite different, to start a mining operation, which would require licensing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe companies Bantu Mining Company Lda., CCB Mining Solution Lda. and Global Solution Moc\u0327ambique Lda., all belonging to Christian Malanga and his American cronies, are not listed in the country\u2019s Mining Database\u201d, reads a statement issued by INAMI.<\/p>\n

According to this document Malanga and his American associates have never submitted applications for exploration licenses to INAMI \u201cand are not even registered as mining operators with the National Directorate of Geology and Mines in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.\u201d<\/p>\n

INAMI acknowledges that the three companies exist, but they are not operating in mining.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the enquiries made to the authorities responsible for the Registration of Legal Entities in the country, we found that these companies are registered in Mozambique, but they are not mining operators\u201d, says the document.<\/p>\n

Malanga, who was also the founding leader of the \u201cUnited Congolese Party\u201d, has claimed friendly relations with Gen Alberto Chipande, a former Mozambican defense minister, who is credited with firing the first shots in the liberation struggle in September 1964. Chipande remains a member of the Political Commission of the ruling Frelimo Party.<\/p>\n

Photos and videos of a meeting between Malanga and Chipande in 2023 are circulating on the Internet.<\/p>\n

According to the Congolese army spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Sylvain Ekenge, six people, including Malanga, were dead and dozens arrested, including three Americans, following Sunday\u2019s attack on the presidential palace and another on the residence of a close ally of President Felix Tshisekedi.<\/p>\n
