Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican government plans to invest around 63.7 billion meticais (one billion dollars at the current exchange rate) to carry out the projects underway at the Pemba Port and Logistics Terminal, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado.<\/p>\n

According to the deputy minister of Industry and Trade and government spokesperson, Ludovina Bernardo, speaking to reporters, on Tuesday, in Maputo, at the end of a meeting of the Council of Ministers (Cabinet), the government has approved a resolution authorizing the direct award of the contract to Sociedade Comercial Pemba Bulk Terminal Limitada (PBT), formed by CD Properties and Portos de Cabo Delgado, to carry out, both on land and at sea, the construction, management and maintenance of the Pemba Port and Logistics Terminal.<\/p>\n

She said that the work will be carried out by the government, in its capacity as port concession holder.<\/p>\n

According to Bernardo, the amount in question will be spent on the ongoing rehabilitation of the infrastructure of the base quay, which has a docking capacity of 115 meters.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the floating quay and other activities, the government would invest around 49.5 billion meticais\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n

Given the need to ensure the continuity of the project and support for hydrocarbon operations, Bernardo announced that the government will invest a further 90 million dollars for other additional projects.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe think it\u2019s a very pertinent piece of infrastructure that will provide services to the major projects we have in Cabo Delgado province and that will have a positive impact\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n
