Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Private schools in Marracuene municipality have 30 days to pay an economic activities fee of 50,000 meticais each.<\/p>\n

Marracuene municipality, in Maputo province, has notified all private schools about the new measure imposed by the town council, estimating that there are at least 50 private schools operating in the town.<\/p>\n

The private educational establishments have one month to pay the economic activity fee.<\/p>\n

Shafee Sidat, president of the municipality of Marracuene, explains that all for-profit economic activity is liable to a fee. \u201cPrivate educational institutions, in addition to paying their taxes if they are in a municipal area, have to pay a fee approved by our Municipal Assembly,\u201d said Mayor Sidat.<\/p>\n

The subject worries school directors, but some of those visited by Jornal O Pai\u0301s did not want to speak out. What is certain, though, is that they are outraged, explaining that the amount is exorbitant and that no targeted school could afford it.<\/p>\n

The mayor argues that it is not enough to just say that the amount to be paid is high. It needs to be proven. \u201cAnyone who thinks that the rate is high can approach the municipality to discuss it. Furthermore, we have a protocol with the tax authority, in which audits of this type of business will be carried out,\u201d Sidat said.<\/p>\n

Marracuene town council says that, in case of non-compliance, coercive collection will be the next step.<\/p>\n
