Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, this Thursday launched, in Chitima, Tete province, an initiative proposed by Hidroele\u0301ctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB), in collaboration with the Zambeze Agency, for the introduction of the project \u201cAgro-food Production Oriented for the Market of Zambezi Valley\u201d (PROMEZA).<\/p>\n

Valued at 450 million meticais (US$7.0 million), the initiative could have a significant socio-economic impact for producing communities in the districts covered in the provinces of Tete, Manica and Gaza (the latter still in the evaluation phase).<\/p>\n

In his speech on the occasion, Filipe Nyusi said that the PROMEZA program constitutes a reinforcement and extension of government programs, enabling the building of value chains. He also stated that the government intends to promote the connection between production, transformation and markets and the consequent generation of income for participants in these economic transactions, having, in this way, encouraged the population to produce more, in order to increase the commercialization of agricultural products in the region and in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

In turn, Toma\u0301s Matola, President of the Board of Directors of HCB, stressed that the initiative aims to prepare communities to supply local markets, given the emergence of structural projects linked to the energy industry and coal exploration, which will consequently increase the search for agricultural products for consumption.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is our firm conviction that investment in initiatives related to activities such as agriculture will contribute to improving the lives of the population and will also serve to boost the region\u2019s economy,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

One thing to highlight is that, for HCB, this project will also serve to strengthen the link between the company and the communities located in areas adjacent to the electricity production system, covering an area of more than 1,000 kilometres.<\/p>\n
