Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Southern Regional Water Administration (ARA-SUL) has warned communities in the region to withdraw from riparian areas in the area\u2019s main hydrographic basins, as large amounts of run-off in these two rivers could lead to flooding.<\/p>\n

ARA-SUL General Director Edgar Chongo says the recent hydrological forecast of normal to above-normal rainfall indicates a possibility that the Incom\u00e1ti and Umbel\u00fazi basins will register a considerable increase in flow.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe risk is medium to high in this zone because we have good levels of storage. The riverbeds\u2019 capacity is reduced and, therefore, the precipitation that may occur could very easily turn into run-off,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

According to Edgar Chongo, the Risk and Disaster Management committees will be revitalised to mitigate the impact of possible flooding.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
