Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Banhine National Park, in Chigubo district, northern Gaza, now has a budget of more than US$5 million for social projects over the next four years.<\/p>\n

The Peace Parks Foundation has disbursed US$5 million to be applied in the economic empowerment of the local communities, providing water supply systems among other benefits.<\/p>\n

The fund is to be spent over a period of five years.<\/p>\n

Projects envisaged cover the areas of agriculture, livestock, trade and forestry, and will benefit residents of the 13 communities that live around the conservation area.<\/p>\n

The administrator of Banhine Park, Abel Nhabanga, said that the financing of these projects would bring the communities closer to the park, and reduce tensions arising from the exploitation of faunal resources.<\/p>\n

Nhabanga explained that the projects would benefit young people, who are often involved in poaching, and that income generation projects to be developed starting next year were conceived within the scope of social responsibility.<\/p>\n

Nhabanga made it known that, in addition to generating income, funds would also be spent opening of water boreholes for human consumption, for the watering of cattle and to irrigate agricultural plots.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
