{"id":654,"date":"2021-06-11T15:33:40","date_gmt":"2021-06-11T15:33:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/?p=654"},"modified":"2021-06-11T15:33:40","modified_gmt":"2021-06-11T15:33:40","slug":"passengers-describe-moments-on-lam-flight-dw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/community\/passengers-describe-moments-on-lam-flight-dw","title":{"rendered":"Passengers describe moments on LAM flight \u2013 DW"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>AfricaPress-mozambique:<\/strong> LAM flight TM315 bound for Maputo was forced to return to Pemba after a fault developed in one of the plane\u2019s windows 40 minutes into the flight. \u201cWe felt the plane descending and started to panic,\u201d one passenger reported.<\/p>\n<p>The 77 passengers and six crew members aboard the Linhas A\u00e9reas de Mo\u00e7ambique (LAM) Boeing 737 flying from Pemba to Maputo early on Wednesday afternoon (June 9) experienced moments of severe disquiet as a result of a problem in one of the plane\u2019s fixed cockpit windows.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOut of nowhere, we felt the plane suddenly descending. We all started to get panicky and scared, and we didn\u2019t have any information from the cabin. Then a flight attendant explained what was happening and told us we were going back to Pemba. When we got to Pemba, we found out that the pilot\u2019s window broke,\u201d one of the passengers interviewed by STV said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cDecided without thinking too much\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Another passenger said that she sensed the entry of \u201ca lot of air\u201d into the aircraft, which began to tilt. \u201cIt was like that for a while,\u201d she reported.<\/p>\n<p>The Lusa news agency, citing the air traffic website Flightradar24, says the plane descended from 10,000 to 3,000 metres in altitude in about five minutes \u2013 as recommended, in order to balance the pressure in and outside of the plane \u2013 before turning back to Pemba.<\/p>\n<p>LAM director Jo\u00e3o Carlos P\u00f3 said that the captain had noticed, in mid-flight, that the fixed window on his side had started to \u201cdelaminate\u201d [meaning that\u00a0some of the layers that compose\u00a0the glass showed signs of peeling off].\u201dHe decided, without thinking too much, that it was a case of going back and assessing the situation on the ground,\u201d Po explained.<\/p>\n<p>At this moment, investigations are underway to determine the causes of the incident.<\/p>\n<p>A photograph of the other front window, which was opened quite normally by the pilot after the plane landed in Pemba, was circulating on social media purporting to be the window which failed during the flight, information which was denied by a source from LAM.<\/p>\n<p>According to the same LAM\u00a0 source, cited by Lusa,\u00a0the\u00a0 LAM maintenance team\u00a0deployed to\u00a0Pemba replaced the fixed glass [not the one open] that\u00a0was\u00a0showing signs of delamination.<\/p>\n<p>The passengers affected were rescheduled for transit to Maputo this Thursday (10 June).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AfricaPress-mozambique: LAM flight TM315 bound for Maputo was forced to return to Pemba after a fault developed in one of the plane\u2019s windows 40 minutes into the flight. \u201cWe felt the plane descending and started to panic,\u201d one passenger reported.
