Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The former head of the State Intelligence and Security Service (SISE), the country\u2019s secret service, Greg\u00f3rio Le\u00e3o arrived on Monday at the special tents in which the Judicial Court of Maputo is operating for the trial of the so-called \u2018hidden debts\u2019 case, being the penultimate of the 19 defendants to be heard.<\/p>\n

At the start of Monday\u2019s session, the Mozambican public prosecutor chose to re-read the indictment, according to which Le\u00e3o benefited from $8.9 million (\u20ac7.6 million) through deposits made in favour of his wife \u00c2ngela Le\u00e3o, also an accused and already questioned in the ongoing trial.<\/p>\n

The 63-year-old former director of SISE is charged with the crimes of embezzlement, association to commit crime, money laundering and blackmail.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe defendant was the head of the Exclusive Economic Zone Protection project\u201d that was at the origin of contracting the hidden debts, said the judge in the reading of the indictment.<\/p>\n

The hearing of the former director of SISE, who held the post for 12 years after serving as Mozambique\u2019s ambassador to Portugal, will take place today and Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The last defendant to be heard will be Ant\u00f3nio Carlos do Ros\u00e1rio, former director of Economic Intelligence at SISE and chairman of the state companies that benefited from the loans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
