Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Data released last August by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) indicate that the sum of the share capital of public companies (exclusively owned by the state) and of state-owned companies amounts to 58.4 billion meticais [around US$ 914,738,472 at current exchange rates].<\/p>\n

Entitled \u201cThe Public Sector in Mozambique: Concept and Scope, 2021\u201d, the report that compiles all public institutions, from political, economic, social to cultural, does not, however, provide comparative data. It does show that the state owns a total of 12 companies\/economic institutions whose share capital is valued at 15.6 billion meticais.<\/p>\n

According to the report, of these companies\/institutions, Electricidade de Mo\u00e7ambique (EDM) is the company with the largest share capital, valued at 6 billion meticais. After EDM comes the company Aeroportos de Mo\u00e7ambique (ADM) with a share capital valued at 4.3 billion meticais, followed by Banco de Mo\u00e7ambique whose share capital is valued at 2.5 billion meticais and, finally, Empresa Mo\u00e7ambicana de Dragagens (EMODRAGA ) with a share capital of 2.4 billion meticais.<\/p>\n

Public companies with the lowest share capital include Hidr\u00e1ulica de Ch\u00f3kw\u00e8 (HICEP) with 12.5 million Meticais, Regadio do Baixo Limpopo (RBL) with 14 million meticais and Imprensa Nacional with a share capital valued at 25 million meticais.<\/p>\n

According to the INE report, the state participates in 20 companies whose share capital amounts to 42.8 billion meticais. Of the robust companies, the highlight goes to Hidroel\u00e9ctrica de Cahora-Bassa (HCB), with share capital of 23 billion meticais. In this company, the state participates in 85%.<\/p>\n

After HCB, there is Mo\u00e7ambique Telecom (Tmcel) with a share capital valued at 10 billion meticais. Here, the state participates in 90% of the company\u2019s shareholder structure. Of the robust ones, the highlight also goes to the National Investment Bank (BNI), with a share capital of around 2.5 billion meticais. Here the state holds 100% of the institution\u2019s shares.<\/p>\n

Among the companies with the lowest share capital, there is the Mozambican Fishing Company (EMOPESCA), in which the state holds an 80% share, with a share capital valued at 29.5 million meticais. There is also Sementes de Mo\u00e7ambique (SEMOC), 100% owned by the state and with share capital of 34.6 million meticais. Finally, there is the Society of Pharmacies of Mozambique (FARMAC), 100% owned by the state and with a share capital valued at 40 million meticais.<\/p>\n
