Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Residents of Maxixe in Inhambane province are still using well water for domestic use and, in addition to the water being unsafe, women have to travel long distances to get it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe suffer a lot, because we have to go very far to get water,\u201d complained Horte\u0302ncia Raimundo, a resident of Maxixe.<\/p>\n

Aure\u0301lia Vena\u0302ncio is experiencing the same dilemma and also complains about the fact that women are forced to rise very early to perform this task.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wake up at 4:00 a.m. to go to the lower area. We don\u2019t sleep. Our life is getting water. Only after that do we go to the \u2018machamba\u2019,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The mayor of Maxixe acknowledges the problem and says that the municipality intends to build five more small-scale water supply systems in the same number of neighbourhoods this year.<\/p>\n

In Maxixe, there are reports of water sources being vandalised, with Governor of Inhambane Eduardo Mussanhane saying this must stop.<\/p>\n

The Maxixe mayor and the governor of Inhambane province were speaking to the press after inaugurating three small-scale water supply systems providing water to a total of 4,500 people<\/p>\n
