Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Consulate General of Portugal in Maputo has been strengthening the security of its facilities, an official source told Lusa this Monday, commenting on new measures announced to users of the services provided there.<\/p>\n

For two weeks now, visitors to the Consulate, after being screened with a metal detector, have had to leave their mobile phones at the entrance. Reflective film has been applied to the windows, and armed police are posted permanently in the vicinity.<\/p>\n

The consulate-general clarifies that it has \u201cenhanced security\u201d to \u201ccreate the conditions for the normal exercise of its activities (\u2026), both for users and employees\u201d, but without commenting on any connection with an abduction that occurred on Mao Tse Tung Avenue, just outside the building, in April.<\/p>\n

On April 13, a 49-year-old woman of Portuguese nationality leaving the building after getting some documents renewed was abducted by armed individuals.<\/p>\n

The victim, the spouse of a businessman in the hospitality sector, was returned to her family in Nampula after 45 days in captivity. The exact circumstances of her release were not shared.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
