Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>President Filipe Nyusi visited several units of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique this Friday, the first of them the Lacustrine and Fluvial Police Branch Command, where he arrived at around 9:00 a.m..<\/p>\n

President Nyusi was greeted by the Minister of the Interior, Amade Miquidade, General Commander of the PRM, Bernardino Rafael, and other members of the force.<\/p>\n

After the honours, the head of state was taken inside, where he heard explanations from the leadership about the functioning of the force. On one occasion, President Nyusi mentioned briefly: \u201cI wanted to see up close how that unit works.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president and his entourage then headed for the headquarters of the Border Police, where he spoke of the need to intensify checks at the borders, as the best way of denying entry to individuals with criminal pretensions.<\/p>\n

The Commander-in-Chief of the Defence and Security Forces highlighted the force\u2019s importance in the protection of the territory and national sovereignty, noting by way of example, that the first terrorist attacks, in Awasse, targeted Border Police positions, agents who, the head of state said, faced the enemy bravely.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey attacked because they knew you were the ones who made it difficult for them to enter. We understand the need to increase staffing levels, so that they are sufficient in numbers, because our borders are extensive and most provinces have borders with neighbouring countries. We also need to rejuvenate our strength so that we are prepared for the challenges. You are the ones who help to protect our resources, our forests and minerals, by not allowing these resources to be abstracted illegally,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

A substantial part of the infrastructure housing the various branches of the Police was built in colonial times and is in need of intervention.<\/p>\n
