Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The 12 de Outubro Primary School, in Beira, Sofala Province, received ton Tuesday, October 12, 8 new classrooms, including furniture (200 desks, tables and chairs for the teachers) built from scratch by Sasol and its partners, ROMPCO (Republic of Mozambique Pipeline Company) and CTRG (Ressano Garcia Thermal Power Plant), companies in which it is also a shareholder.<\/p>\n

With the implementation of the Mozambique Red Cross, this action is part of the joint reconstruction efforts after the tropical cyclone IDAI, which caused hundreds of human victims and destroyed several infrastructures, mainly in the cities of Beira and Dondo.<\/p>\n

The delivery of the 8 classrooms at 12 de Outubro Primary School, which takes place on a date that also celebrates Mozambique Teachers\u2019 Day, is part of a package made available by Sasol and its partners, for a total amount of 650 thousand US dollars, which allowed interventions in the following infrastructure from the communities of Sofala and northern Inhambane Province:<\/p>\n

Sasol\u2019s Managing Director, Ovidio Rodolfo, on the occasion, highlighted the company\u2019s commitment to intervene in one of the key areas for the country\u2019s development \u2013 education. \u201cSasol believes in the transformative power of the investment in education. Therefore, at a time when the country was going through one of the worst humanitarian challenges in history, due to the tropical cyclone IDAI, which caused thousands of human victims and destroyed various infrastructures, mainly in the cities of Beira and Dondo, Sasol, together with its partners, chose education to provide its support,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Sofala Province Governor, Louren\u00e7o Bulha, who was part of the event to deliver the classrooms, highlighted Sasol\u2019s role as a corporate citizen of Mozambique. \u201cWe are very happy with this support from Sasol, which has come to help us in the efforts to rebuild the damages caused by one of the worst cyclones for the past 100 years. A word of appreciation to Sasol for this initiative. Sasol is an important partner to our province,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Scholarships and training<\/b><\/p>\n

Sasol\u2019s interventions in education also includes initiatives such as the awarding of more than 50 scholarships, training of teachers in improved teaching methods for science, construction and rehabilitation of several schools throughout the country, among other actions.<\/p>\n
