Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican swimming team ended its participation in the ANA African Swimming & Open Water Championship with a slew of encouraging results.<\/p>\n

Kaio Faftine finished in 4th place in the three-kilometre open water event with a time that broke the national record, both for the category and absolutely.<\/p>\n

In the senior competitions, the Mozambique women\u2019s team finished in 7th place with 29 points, while the men finished 9th, with 15 points. Overall, the country seniors finished in 6th place, with 52 points.<\/p>\n

In the juniors, Mozambique finished in 4th place overall with 479 points. The women finished in 5th with 141 points, while the men made it onto the podium, in third place with 298 points.<\/p>\n

Mozambique\u2019s swimmers broke five national records at individual level and another three at relay. It is notable that the Mozambican delegation had only three senior relay swimmers, one male and two female, which made it necessary for the junior swimmers to reinforce the relay teams for the senior races.<\/p>\n

Kaio Lobo was the most competitive swimmer in the Mozambican team, breaking five records, namely in the 100 and 200 metres breaststroke and 200 metres men\u2019s individual medley, all in juniors, in addition to participating in the seniors\u2019 4\u00d7200 metres relay and 4\u00d7100 metres freestyle. Matthew Lawrence also broke the record for 100 metres butterfly, in juniors, as did Kaio Faftine, in the three-kilometre open water event.<\/p>\n

In the juniors, Al\u00edcia Mateus, Sophie Fernandes, Filipa Xavier and Yusra Ribeiro broke the record for the women\u2019s 4\u00d7200 metres freestyle.<\/p>\n

About 500 swimmers from 42 African countries participated in the XIV CANA African Junior and Senior Championships 2021, held from 11 to 17 October 2021 at the Trust Sports Emporium in Accra, Ghana.<\/p>\n

Mozambique took a team of 15 swimmers of both sexes, seven seniors and eight juniors.<\/p>\n
