Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Municipality of Maputo has budgeted more than 17 million meticais for the construction of three public toilets in Maputo, as part of the Urban Transformation Project.<\/p>\n

In response to a wave of objections, the municipality explains that this is one of the best value proposals received, but that the materials used in this type of construction make the project expensive.<\/p>\n

With the works awarded to the company Jakhas Servic\u0327os, the municipality of the country\u2019s capital says that the price chosen was one of the fairest among the competitors.<\/p>\n

This is 21% below the estimated total cost of 22,365 million meticais and 6% below the average price of all the proposals considered adequate, within the scope of this tender,\u201d commented Joa\u0303o Munguambe, Councillor for Infrastructure and Health<\/p>\n

The material used in the construction of the three toilets, to be located at the Junta Transport Terminal and at the Jardim and Missa\u0303o Roque bus stops, also justifies the cost.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are metal sanitary ware (…) which is not easily sourced. It will also have sunlight-based lighting around its perimeter, in order to provide privacy and security,\u201d Councillor Munguambe added.<\/p>\n

The toilets are to be built within the scope of the Maputo Urban Transformation Project, financed by the World Bank, under which Maputo municipality guarantees that the award process was conducted in a transparent and rigorous manner, respecting the standards established by the financier and by national legislation on public tenders.<\/p>\n
