Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>At least two people died and seven others were injured, after a cargo train belonging to the \u201cNacala Logistics\u201d company derailed on Friday afternoon in Murissa, less than 20 kilometres from the town of Cuamba, the economic hub of Mozambique\u2019s northern province of Niassa.<\/p>\n

The derailed train was travelling from the Moatize coal basin, in the central province of Tete, to the coal terminal in Nacala-a-Velha district, in Nampula province. A few kilometres from Cuamba the train derailed and sources on the ground indicate that at least 40 wagons, loaded with coal, fell into a river where dozens of children we swimming.<\/p>\n

Nacala Logistics issued a press release which did not give details about the number of casualties but promised to provide the necessary support for the victims.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn coordination with the authorities, the company has promptly put in place every support scheme for the victims and has dispatched to the site emergency teams,\u201d states the release, adding that the movement of trains has been interrupted, following the derailment.<\/p>\n

The suspension of traffic will remain in place until safety conditions for the movement of cargo and passenger trains have been restored. Nacala Logistics assures that it is following the situation attentively and will give details as soon as the causes of the accident have been identified.<\/p>\n

Nacala Logistics is the company in charge of the management of the railway system with over 1,600 kilometres of line, ferrying coal, general cargo and passengers.<\/p>\n
