He joined UNECA in 2001 where he has held several senior positions.<\/p>\n<p>Between 2001 and 2009 he was the head of Infrastructure and Natural Resources Development based in Addis Ababa, focussing on mining, water, transport, and energy development.<\/p>\n<p>Amongst his achievements were spearheading the formulation of the Africa Mining Vision which was adopted by the African Union summit. He has also served as the Director for UNECA\u2019s sub-regional offices for Eastern Africa (between 2009 and 2016) and Central Africa (between 2016 and 2021).<\/p>\n<p>At a farewell ceremony in Yaound\u00e9, the government of Cameroon expressed its gratitude to Pedro for his work at the UNECA sub-regional office where he played a leading role in the design of the \u201cMade in Central Africa\u201d initiative, and for UNECA\u2019s support for structural transformation and economic diversification.<\/p>\n<p>The Cameroon Minister of Industry, Gabriel Dodo Ndoke, told Pedro \u201cwe will never forget the key role you played in overhauling our Industrial Development Masterplan, in the return of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation to Cameroon, and in the design of our forthcoming wood-sector Special Economic Zone in our forest rich East Region\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>UNECA was established in 1958 as one of the United Nations\u2019 five regional commissions, with a mandate to promote economic and social development, foster intra-regional integration, and promote international cooperation for Africa\u2019s development.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\">Mozambique<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Mozambique.
