Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The British Council in Mozambique held a ceremony on Friday to announce the winners of a climate change competition funded by the British High Commission Maputo that targeted teachers and students of national schools ahead of the United Nations Annual Climate Change Conference (COP26).<\/p>\n

The main objective of the competition was to raise awareness on climate change issues, specifically within the academic community, by giving them the opportunity to reflect on the topic in a global and local context, at school or community level, and identify possible solutions around it. The school competition on climate change ran from September to October giving over 600 teachers across the country an opportunity to explore a set of reading resources that were made available as part of the competition.<\/p>\n

The winning school teams ranked in the first three places were awarded with funds that range from MZN 30,000 to MZN 60,000 to be used in the implementation of the plan submitted in the competition as a solution for the climate change issue in their school or in their community. The winning schools are:<\/p>\n

1st Place \u2013 Team from Machava Sede Secondary School (Maputo Province)<\/p>\n

2nd Place \u2013 Team from Colegio Nyamunda (Maputo City)<\/p>\n

3rd Place \u2013 Team from Iuluti Secondary School (Nampula Province)<\/p>\n

The event had the presence of Auzinda Domingos from the Ministry of Education and Human Development, the British Council Country Director Robert Taylor and the Head of Human Development, Climate and Humanitarian Department at the British High Commission Paul Healey.<\/p>\n

\u2018\u2019The British Council was delighted to administer this excellent competition in collaboration with the British High Commission, and it was especially gratifying for us all to see entries from right across the country and of such a strong standard. The schools, pupils and teachers engaged deeply and sent excellent ideas and video presentations. We hope that teachers will use the resources that were produced and sent out, and we send our warm congratulations to everyone that entered the competition\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
