Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Confederation of Mozambican Business Associations (CTA) claimed on Tuesday in Maputo that the Business Robustness Index across the country, over the third quarter of 2021, has fallen to 26 per cent compared with the 29 per cent reached in the second quarter.<\/p>\n

Addressing an economic briefing on business performance over the third quarter of the year and perspectives for 2022, CTA Deputy Chairperson Zuneid Calumias said that the reduction in the business robustness index was caused essentially by the restrictive measures against the Covid-19 pandemic, currency depreciation, the increase in minimum wages as well as transport costs following the recent global logistical crisis.<\/p>\n

Calumias pointed out that, between the second and third quarters of the year. the macroeconomic environment deteriorated, and slumped by three percentage points, from 50 to 47 per cent, as a result of depreciation of the currency, and an acceleration of inflation, within a context where bank interest rates have not unchanged.<\/p>\n

The third quarter, he added, was also marked by legislative changes which had an adverse impact on the business environment, with emphasis on the passing of a new regulation imposing fiscal stamps on beer. The move has aggravated the costs for the brewing industry.<\/p>\n

However, he also pointed out that there are other regulatory measures which brought a positive impact to the business environment, such as the elimination of the provisional warrantee in public bids for the supply of goods and services to the State.<\/p>\n

They also include the recent passing of a legal instrument imposing the need for great discipline in road inspection by the provincial police commands.<\/p>\n

Calumias said the CTA is hopeful for an improvement in business performance, following the lifting of restrictive measures against Covid-19,<\/p>\n
