Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>\u201cCompared to last year, maize grain prices in September were 8% to 27% lower across all monitored markets, reflecting the impact of greater national grain supply in the current year,\u201d reads the latest Famine Early Warning (FEWS) Network summary.<\/p>\n

The difference is significant compared to 2020, but remains within the range of average values over the last five years, the report adds.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaize grain prices are expected to remain similar to last year and may even be slightly lower from January onwards, driven by predictably above-average harvests,\u201d the document reads.<\/p>\n

As for flour, prices are expected to \u201cremain relatively stable\u201d, without ruling out \u201cshort-term variations based on local dynamics of supply and demand\u201d.<\/p>\n

The humanitarian crisis in Cabo Delgado is the only one causing alarm in the latest FEWS food security forecast for Mozambique, with 930,000 people predicted to need monthly support by May 2022.<\/p>\n
